Skiing Big Air Final Release
Fans ‘Flip’ for Dumont
Voted the Winner of Skiing Big Air
Aspen, Colo. – A capacity crowd at Buttermilk Mountain was looking for a little excitement.
Simon Dumont was happy to oblige, as 76% of the fans voted him the winner of Skiing Big Air.
Dumont’s winning jump began with a flip at the start and ended with two more, plus a
Superman impression thrown in for good measure.
“This is such a great night for Big Air Skiing,” Dumont said. “I was so excited to go up against
Jon with 100% fan voting. I thought the double-front flip would get it done and thanks to the
fans, it did.”
Last year’s winner, Jon Olsson came in second with a final jump that was his own creation –
an Olsson flip, 1080. And although the trick was deemed by most as being more difficult, the
fans awarded Dumont the gold.
There are no other medals besides gold for Skiing Big Air.
The Big Air competition featured four top skiers in a head-to-head bracketed format. In each
round, riders received two jumps. The Winter X Games 13 Big Air jump consisted of a single
feature – a 65-foot step-up gap.
